Mail Spam Blocker V4.3.2 Dreamweaver Extension for DW6, DW7, DW8 Security level: advanced, but MEDIUM New using instructions to get it work with DW6, DW7 AND DW8 |
!!! NEW !!! Mail Spam Blocker V5.0 |
Last updated on 2006-03-21.
What for?
Use the Mail Spam Blocker to encrypt a mailaddress, illegible for Spam-Harvester, to offer your visitors a useful mailaddress on your Website.
V4.3 now offers advanced security: Every letter of your mailadress is now randomly changed into
UNICODE, OR A HEX-VALUE OR LEFT TO THE ORIGINAL LETTER.
Summary: A Spam-Bot now has to read three different types of characters. And that is going to be hard...
Any charges?
NO! This tool is FREEWARE. If you are satisfied with this extension, you might want to donate via PayPal. By donating you are allowed to delete the MSB copyright message in the sourcecode of your website.
ALL OTHERS CAN ALSO USE THE MSB IN THEIR WEBSITES - AS LONG AS YOU LEAVE THE COPYRIGHT-MESSAGE OF THE MSB IN THE SOURCECODE OF YOUR WEBSITE INTACT!!!
Is it different to use?
No! Usage:
After downloading install the MSB with the Extension Manager. Restart Dreaweaver. To start this extension click on the 'Mail Spam Blocker' icon on the Common tab from the Insert bar or 'Mail Spam Blocker' entry from the Insert menu:

On click you'll see following window:
1.) Mailaddress: Address to be coded.
e.g.: 'contact@domain.com'
2.) Linktext: An alternative link text, which can be different with your mailaddress.
e.g.: 'Click here for CONTACT'
3.) Use Email Address as Linktext: Selects if the indicated mailaddress and the linktext are the same.
4.) Encrypt Linktext: Link text is also encrypted. Recommended if you checked 'Use Email Address as Linktext'
5.) Encrypt "mailto:" Recommended.
History:
04-06-09: first release on the Macromedia Exchange, many comments from our users. MSB encoding in unicode.
04-09-03: release update, advanced security: Every letter of your mailaddress is now randomly changed into unicode, or a hex-value or left to the original letter.
04-10-14: bugfix-release.
06-03-21: New MSB online-tool.
Known problems?
Yes. But that are no Mail Spam Blocker bugs. Dreamweaver likes to clean up by rewriting the code.
IF...
...you use the 'convert to XHTML' command, all ampersands are encoded as entities.
Try this:
After converting go to code-view in DW. Copy everything between '<a href=...' and '</a> into Notepad, cut all 'amp;' and paste it back into your DW code.
You should get something like: '<a href="mailt... (Now, no more 'amp;' is used).
OR
Make a new html-page, use the MSB and produce all addresses that you like to use. Copy each address into your xml documents.
...you use the 'clean up HTML/XHTML' command, Dreamweaver converts the encoded HTML items back to text.
Try this:
FIRST 'clean up' and THEN use the MSB.
Other problems? (DW8!!!)
Yes. Use the right doctype for your documents!!! That's the reason why DW8 (and also DW6, DW7) make troubles:

You have to use HTML Transitional for correct functionality! If you have to make XHTML sites use the new MSB 5.0 and copy the upper piece of code into an external js-File and DO NOT copy it between <head> </head>.
Have fun!
